The Macallan 15 Years Old Colour Collection is a Highland single malt Scotch whisky, bottled at 43 per cent in a 0.7-litre bottle, and forms part of the special Macallan Colour Collection. The range pays tribute to two key elements of The Macallan’s philosophy: the natural colour of the whisky and the consistent use of sherry-seasoned oak casks. The 15-year-old single malt matures predominantly in American oak casks previously filled with sherry from Jerez de la Frontera, supplemented by a smaller proportion of suitable European oak casks. During its 15-year maturation, the rich colour, reminiscent of beech wood, develops solely through the interaction between the distillate and the oak casks. The whisky therefore requires no added colouring, underlining The Macallan’s characteristic focus on cask quality and natural colour development.
The design of The Macallan Colour Collection 15 Years Old also reflects the connection to Jerez de la Frontera. Renowned graphic designer David Carson created the distinctive wave pattern and a collage whose warm hues are inspired by the landscape and orchards around Jerez, as well as by the whisky’s natural colour. The combination of 15 years’ maturation, American and European oak, and the casks’ prior use for sherry makes this bottling a distinctive addition to the Colour Collection and an interesting choice for lovers of sherry-cask-matured Macallan single malts.
