The Balvenie 12 Years Old Double Wood 40% Vol. 0.7 l + GB is an outstanding single malt Scotch whisky from the traditional The Balvenie Distillery in Dufftown, in the heart of Scotland’s Speyside. It is one of the distillery’s classics and epitomises the masterful craftsmanship that can be felt at every stage of production – from growing its own barley and traditional malting through to cask maturation and marrying.
This twelve-year-old single malt owes its name and exceptional depth to its maturation in two different types of cask. Firstly, it matured for twelve years in ex-bourbon casks made from American oak, which lend it soft vanilla and honey notes. This was followed by a further maturation period of around nine months in Spanish Oloroso sherry casks, allowing rich, fruity flavours and a warm spiciness to develop. Finally, the whisky is married for around three months in large oak casks – known as “tuns” – to harmoniously combine its various cask components.

The Balvenie 12 Years Old Double Wood unfolds its full flavour on its own or with a drop of water to emphasise the fine sherry and vanilla notes. It is an excellent accompaniment to roasted almonds, crème brûlée, mild cheese or dark chocolate. It is also ideal as an accompaniment to a relaxed evening or a good cigar.
