The Scheiblhofer winery is a family business and cultivates around 104 hectares of vines, making it one of the largest wineries in Burgenland. All of the grapes are processed on the estate and marketed in bottles. The municipality of Andau, where the winery is located, is one of the municipalities with the most hours of sunshine and creates ideal conditions for full-bodied wines thanks to the mineral-rich gravel soil.

The winery is not only well known for its Prädikat wines, but also for its top red wines such as the outstanding “Big John”. Johann Scheiblhofer has won more than 300 gold medals at national awards, making him the winner of the most awards in the country.

Scheiblhofer The Great Bustard is a powerful yet elegant cuvée of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Zweigelt that combines the best characteristics of these grape varieties. This dry red wine is vinified with the utmost precision and matures for 12 months in new American barriques. After ageing in barrels, it is bottled and sealed with a high-quality natural cork to preserve its longevity and aromatic density.

With an impressive drinking potential from 2024 to 2034, this red wine will develop in a fascinating way over the years.

Tasting NoteDeep, dark ruby-garnet colour with violet reflections in the glass. Intense and complex nose of ripe black cherries, precious wood and cassis. Harmonious, elegant on the palate, subtle notes of precious wood, juicy black cherries, accompanied by a hint of cassis. Long-lasting with a supple tannin finish.
