Salzl Zweigelt Selection Neusiedlersee DAC 2023 13,5% Vol. 0,75l
£10.31
The Salzl Zweigelt Selection Neusiedlersee DAC 2023 comes from the Salzl Seewinkelhof winery and represents a typical, regionally deeply rooted Zweigelt from Burgenland. The 100 per cent Zweigelt grape variety grows here on Paratschernosem made of loamy sand with a high gravel content, a soil type that ensures optimal drainage and pronounced grape variety depth. Vinification involves traditional maceration at 30 °C, a maceration period of 14 days and malolactic fermentation before ageing in steel tanks and partly in small oak barrels (four barrels). This combination gives the wine a clear structure and well-integrated components that characterise the typical style of the Neusiedlersee DAC. The recommended drinking temperature of 16-18 °C and the ageing period of 2025 to 2031 under optimal storage conditions emphasise its potential.
The balance between traditional cellar work, regional typicity and finely tuned use of wood results in a Zweigelt that is stylistically clear, harmonious and modern. The 2023 vintage combines structure, elegance and accessibility, making it a reliable companion both in a gastronomic environment and for private enjoyment. The careful processing of the grapes and precise vinification emphasise the strengths of the grape variety and create a wine that convincingly conveys the DAC-typical style of the Neusiedlersee region.
Tasting NoteDark ruby-garnet colour in the glass with an almost black core and violet rim. The nose reveals typical heart cherry notes, stewed sour cherries, fresh spicy components, wild berry confit, fine floral nuances, currants and a hint of nougat. On the palate, the wine is juicy, elegant and wonderfully balanced, with roasted cherries, plums, fine sweetness and a hint of dark chocolate. The finish is pleasant, with subtle salty minerality, fresh herbal spice, tobacco accents, ripe red berry fruit and supple, soft tannins with a long finish.
Acidity: 4.5 g/l
Residual sugar: 2.1 g/l
This Zweigelt Neusiedlersee DAC is an excellent accompaniment to dark poultry such as goose or duck, whose aromatic depth harmonises perfectly with the fruity structure of the wine. It is also suitable for strong fish dishes such as eel or spicy sea fish, which emphasise its elegance and balance particularly well. Classic combinations such as braised vegetable dishes, mushroom ragouts, savoury pasta dishes or mild hard and semi-hard cheeses are also ideal accompaniments to its juicy, harmonious style. Thanks to its accessible structure and ripe, red-fruity flavour, this Zweigelt is just as suitable for convivial evenings as it is for sophisticated menus.
