In the picturesque landscape of Riegersburg in Styria, Alois Gölles is the third generation to run the traditional family fruit-growing business. After graduating from the renowned Federal College for Wine and Fruit Growing in Klosterneuburg, he dedicated himself to refining his parents’ harvest of apples, pears, plums and peaches. He began distilling fine brandies in 1979, followed by the founding of his high-quality vinegar factory in 1984. Today, the range includes around twenty fine brandies and just as many types of vinegar, which are regularly recognised.
Ruotker’s ALOIS I., a powerful rye whiskey, is finished for around 12 months in these old plum barrels, a practice that gives it an unmistakable profile. The unique combination of the strong rye flavours with the gentle fruity notes of the plum develops an incredibly complex taste that makes ALOIS an exceptional whiskey.
