Description
The Port Charlotte 18 Years Old Heavily Peated Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky 2025 51.5% Vol. 0.7 l is an outstanding masterpiece from the Bruichladdich Distillery on the Scottish island of Islay – a limited bottling that presents the uncompromising craftsmanship and characteristic smoke signature of Port Charlotte in its perfect form.
This heavily peated single malt is made from heavily peated barley malt and embodies the perfect balance between intense smokiness, cask complexity and elegantly matured depth. The whisky is matured for 18 years in a fascinating combination of first-fill bourbon casks (53%) and second-fill sherry casks (31%). A further, particularly interesting component (16%) was initially matured for 11 years in sherry casks, then transferred to virgin French oak for around five years and finally recasked in second-fill bourbon casks. This elaborate maturation structure gives the whisky its exceptional depth, texture and complexity, before all the cask parts were carefully married together.
With an alcohol content of 51.5% vol., this Port Charlotte 18 Years Old is an intense, full-bodied yet harmonious single malt. It is not chill-filtered and is bottled without colouring to preserve its natural colour – golden syrup – and its unadulterated character. The combination of strong peat smoke, fine wood and the typical Bruichladdich finesse makes it one of the most important Islay whiskies of its generation.
Tasting NoteColour: Golden syrup.
Nose: Aromas of dried fruit, sweet smoke, oak and caramel with a hint of tobacco and toffee.
Flavour: Smooth and full-bodied with brown sugar, apricots, honey and strong peat smoke, rounded off with hazelnut and coconut.
Finish: Spicy, slightly salty and long-lasting with notes of wood smoke and subtle sweetness.
The Port Charlotte 18 Years Old Heavily Peated is a collector’s whisky that should be enjoyed neat at room temperature to fully develop its complexity. A splash of water opens up the sweet, fruity and maritime flavours even further. It goes perfectly with dark chocolate, smoked cheese, grilled lamb or BBQ dishes. It also unfolds its full aromatic power in combination with a fine cigar.
