Poliziano Rosso di Montepulciano DOC 2024 13,5% Vol. 0,75l
£14.47
The Poliziano Rosso di Montepulciano DOC 2024 is based on a classic cuvée of 80% Sangiovese – traditionally called Prugnolo Gentile in Montepulciano – and 20% Merlot. The grapes are organically grown on clay soils rich in galestro, which contribute significantly to the typical regional structure. The wine is matured both in stainless steel tanks and in barriques, with the ageing period deliberately kept short in order to preserve the youthful freshness of the Sangiovese at the centre. The 2024 vintage is vegan, filtered and sealed with natural cork; the recommended drinking temperature is 16-18 °C, with ageing potential until 2030. As a stylistic introduction to the world of Vino Nobile, this Rosso shows the characteristic clarity and directness that characterises the Poliziano winery and combines tradition with modern precision.
In the glass, the Rosso 2024 presents itself as an authentic expression of its terroir: the combination of organic farming, regional grape variety identity and reduced wood maturation ensures a clear, varietal structure. The cuvée is youthful, finely built and has a balance that is typical of Poliziano – characterised by elegance, moderate tannins and a clear, exciting line. Thanks to its accessibility and precise focus, this Rosso is suitable as a versatile accompaniment to food as well as a wine for enjoyable evenings and an uncomplicated introduction to the Tuscan style.
Awards:
– 91 points from James Suckling
Tasting NoteAn intense ruby red colour in the glass. Sour cherries, dark forest fruits, blood oranges, red liquorice and a hint of wet stones emerge on the nose, accompanied by herbal-floral nuances. On the palate, the wine is dense, focussed and elegantly structured with a medium body, velvety texture and discreetly integrated tannins. The finish is flavoursome, crisp and long-lasting.
Acidity: 5.85 g/l
Residual sugar: 2.39 g/l
The Poliziano Rosso di Montepulciano 2024 is an excellent accompaniment to Tuscan classics such as pasta al ragù, stuffed pasta variations or lasagne, as its fruity structure and fine acidity are ideal for savoury components. It also harmonises well with roast poultry, Mediterranean vegetables, mushroom dishes or mild cheeses. It adds depth and balance to grilled lamb, porchetta or spicy tomato compositions. It also unfolds its accessible, elegant character to accompany a relaxed evening, small starter platters or rustic appetisers and offers a stylish introduction to the world of Tuscan red wine.
