Description

Pimm’s No. 1 Cup is a legendary gin-based herbal liqueur with an alcohol content of 25 per cent, sold in a 0.7-litre bottle, and has been one of Britain’s best-known aperitif specialities for generations. As early as 1840, James Pimm developed the recipe that remains famous to this day, which is based on London Dry Gin and refined with a carefully balanced combination of fruits, herbs and spices. The exact recipe is still considered a closely guarded secret and is known to only a select few. Particularly during the summer months, Pimm’s No. 1 Cup is one of the most popular drinks at garden parties, picnics and traditional sporting events such as Wimbledon or the Henley Royal Regatta.

Its distinctive character combines spicy herbs, subtle citrus notes and a pleasant bittersweet freshness to create a versatile aperitif. Pimm’s No. 1 Cup is traditionally served over ice or as the famous Pimm’s Cup. For the traditional preparation, 50 ml of Pimm’s No. 1 Cup is topped up with 150 ml of ginger ale or, alternatively, lemonade, and garnished with plenty of ice, fresh fruit and herbs. This creates a particularly refreshing long drink with a distinctly British flair.

Tasting NoteColour: Dark amber with reddish highlights.

Nose: Spicy herbs, juniper, subtle citrus notes and delicate bitter undertones.

The Pimm’s No. 1 Cup is traditionally served as a Pimm’s Cup with 50 ml of Pimm’s, 150 ml of ginger ale or lemonade, plenty of ice, slices of cucumber, orange and lemon, strawberries and fresh mint. Culinary pairings: this British aperitif goes superbly with finger food, cucumber sandwiches, quiche, smoked salmon, grilled chicken, summer salads, fish and chips, strawberry cake, scones with clotted cream or a classic afternoon tea selection. Its fresh herbal and citrus notes make it the ideal accompaniment for summer garden parties and convivial aperitif moments.
