The Penderyn COPPEROPOLIS Icons of Wales Single Malt Welsh Whiskey Sweet Red Wine Finish 46% Vol. 0.7 l + GB is a limited edition bottling from the renowned Penderyn Distillery, the first whisky distillery in Wales for over a century. With its Icons of Wales series, the distillery honours important chapters in Welsh history – the Copperopolis refers to the rich copper past of the Swansea region, which was once known worldwide as the “Copperopolis”.
This single malt Welsh whiskey is produced using Penderyn’s signature Faraday distillation process and is first matured in select oak casks before being finished in sweet red wine casks. This special post-maturing process gives it a complex flavour with a balance of fruity sweetness, fine wood and spicy undertones. Bottled at 46% vol., unfiltered and without colouring, this whiskey presents itself in its natural depth and purity.
Tasting NoteColour: Deep copper red with warm reflections.
Nose: Fruity and elegant, with notes of red berries, vanilla, oak and a hint of caramel.
Taste: Full-bodied and harmonious, with sweet berries, toffee, spices and a fine balance of red wine and wood flavours.
Finish: Medium to long, smooth, fruity and spicy at the same time, with a lingering sweetness.
The Penderyn Copperopolis reveals its character neat in a nosing glass or with a drop of water to bring out the fruit flavours even more. It goes perfectly with strong hard cheeses, sweet desserts such as chocolate fondant or fruit cake and also harmonises with grilled meat, where its red wine barrel notes perfectly underline the roasted flavours. For special moments of pleasure, it is also an ideal accompaniment to a mild to medium-bodied cigar.
