Description
Martell was founded in the Cognac region in 1715, making it the oldest of the four major Cognac houses. The house is characterized by its special double distillation method, in which the essence of the eaux-de-vie is extracted using a traditional still. The grapes used come from the four best growing regions in the Charente department: Borderies, Grande Champagne, Petite Champagne and Fins Bois. After distillation, the eaux-de-vie are aged in Troncais oak barrels, which infuse them with soft, subtle tannins that give the cognac its particular finesse and complexity, amber color and aroma. Martell VSOP Aged in Red Barrels is a dark amber-colored, long-matured Cognac with wonderful aromas of dried fruit, vanilla and oak. The taste is full-bodied and velvety with a very fine sweetness and a long-lasting finish. Some people may also be familiar with this fine drop under the name Martell VSOP Medaillon. This is what this sweet cognac was called before its name was changed.
