The Hillinger HILL 1 2020 14% vol. 1.5 litre is the first great top wine from the Leo Hillinger winery and has marked a style-defining Benchmark in Burgenland viticulture since its launch. The cuvée of Merlot, Blaufränkisch and Zweigelt comes from selected sites with deep, mineral-rich soils that offer optimal conditions for powerful, long-lasting red wines. Vinification involves careful processing by hand, followed by extensive ageing: 24 months in new French wood, then 3-5 years in new and used barriques before the wine is matured further in magnum bottles. This combination of Langs barrel ageing and large bottle volume makes a decisive contribution to its density, structure and impressive depth of development. The dry ageing, the precise cuvéeing and the high ageing potential of 10 years and beyond emphasise its position as the house’s flagship wine.

Dark fruits, blackcurrants, cherries and blueberries on the nose, with delicate balsamic and black tea flavours and an earthy expression. Dry, structured and full-bodied on the palate, with supporting acidity and firm tannins. Tea and balsamic flavours accompany the fruity blackcurrant accents. The finish is precise, balanced and long-lasting.
