Hillinger Grüner Veltliner Leithaberg DAC 2022 13% Vol. 0,75l
£15.51
The Hillinger Grüner Veltliner Leithaberg DAC 2022 13% vol. 0.75 l comes from the striking slopes of the Leithaberg, where limestone and slate soils offer ideal conditions for this grape variety. The grapes come from old vines whose deep root system precisely reflects the geological diversity of the region. Vinification involves selective hand-picking, 16 hours of maceration, spontaneous fermentation in used French barriques and a five-month fermentation period. This is followed by around four months on the full lees, a further twelve months on the fine lees and storage in a 3,000-litre wooden barrel. This combination of traditional craftsmanship and careful ageing gives the wine structure, depth and a clear characterisation of origin. With a storage potential of around 10 years, Leithaberg Veltliner is one of the longest-lived white wines in the region.
The 2022 vintage combines origin, craftsmanship and grape variety character in an exemplary way. The influence of the Leithaberg vineyards can be seen in the stylistic clarity and taut structure, which makes the wine a versatile and sophisticated representative of the DAC. The composition of gentle processing, long yeast maturation and terroir-influenced soils emphasises its precision and elegance. The optimum serving temperature is 9-10°C, the ideal drinking temperature is 11-12°C, whereby its inner structure and fine tension appear particularly balanced.
Tasting NoteGolden straw yellow in the glass with clear, light-coloured edges. Ripe vineyard peach and lemon on the nose, followed by slatey, delicately spicy aromas, black pepper and Provençal herbs. Perfectly balanced on the palate with animating acidity and tingling minerality reminiscent of fresh morning dew. The finish is fresh, precise and long-lasting.
Acidity: 4.9 g/l
Residual sugar: 1 g/l
This Grüner Veltliner Leithaberg DAC harmonises perfectly with scampi on lemongrass, catfish fillet with porcini mushroom risotto, herb cuisine, white meat and classic Austrian dishes such as Krautfleckerl or Wiener Schnitzel. It is also suitable for vegetarian dishes, aromatic vegetable dishes and fine starters. Its minerality and structure make it ideal for sophisticated menus, festive occasions or the pure enjoyment of a Leithaberg-Veltliner with a strong character.
