Hannes Reeh Merlot Unplugged 2020 14.5% ABV 0.75l
£24.88
The Hannes Reeh Winery is situated in the renowned wine-growing region of Andau, which lies in the immediate vicinity of Lake Neusiedl. With 2,400 hours of sunshine, Andau is one of the sunniest regions in Austria and offers ideal conditions for viticulture. Since 2007, Hannes Reeh has personally been responsible for the vinification of his wines. His tireless dedication is evident in every single one of his wines, which reflect the region’s unique character.
Under the ‘Unplugged’ label, Hannes Reeh vinifies his wines without any fining, filtration or technical intervention, in order to reflect the terroir and the grape variety as authentically as possible. This approach ensures a particularly pure and unadulterated expression of the Cabernet Sauvignon grape, which ripens perfectly under the climatic conditions of Lake Neusiedl.
Hannes Reeh Merlot Unplugged is a full-bodied and expressive red wine made from 100% Merlot grapes. These come from 20-year-old vines cultivated in the vineyard of the renowned winemaker Hannes Reeh in Austria’s southern wine-growing region. The wine is vinified in stainless steel tanks following spontaneous fermentation, which lends it a particularly authentic, natural bouquet. After a 6-week maceration period, the wine is aged in barriques to further develop its complexity and depth.
With a recommended drinking window extending to 2035, the Hannes Reeh Merlot Unplugged offers excellent ageing potential and will continue to develop further over time.
Tasting NoteA deep ruby red in the glass. The nose entices with dark berries, accompanied by a pleasantly invigorating spiciness. Full-bodied on the palate, with beautifully integrated tannins and flavours of plums, ripe black cherries and dark berries. A long-lasting, spicy finish.
Acidity: 5.4 g/l
Residual sugar: 1.3 g/l
Serving temperature: 16–18 °C
Hannes Reeh Merlot Unplugged is a great accompaniment to steaks, rich, slow-cooked meat stews or lamb dishes. It also pairs wonderfully with mature cheeses such as Comté or Gruyère.
