Franz Hirtzberger Grüner Veltliner Honivogl Smaragd 2023 14% Vol. 0,75l
£153.97
The Franz Hirtzberger Grüner Veltliner Honivogl Smaragd 2023 is one of the most important and renowned white wines in Austria. It comes from the iconic Honivogl vineyard in Spitz an der Donau – one of Franz Hirtzberger’s favourite vineyards. The steep terraces on weathered primary rock soils and loess offer a unique combination of warmth, structure and minerality, giving the wine its unmistakable depth and complexity.
As a representative of the highest Wachau quality level Smaragd, this Grüner Veltliner is powerful, multi-layered and extremely storable. It is matured traditionally in stainless steel tanks and partly in large wooden barrels to promote structure and longevity. The grapes are selectively harvested by hand with the utmost precision – the result is an exceptional wine with regional character and international stature. With an alcohol content of 14% vol., this vintage is particularly balanced and full of finesse without losing any of its depth.
The Honivogl Smaragd is a flagship for the Hirtzberger style and for the potential of the Grüner Veltliner grape variety. It is one of the most sought-after white wines in the Wachau and also enjoys an excellent international reputation.
Tasting NoteIn the glass, the wine is a bright golden yellow with greenish reflections. On the nose, it has a complex bouquet of ripe yellow apple, honeydew melon, white pepper, smoky notes and fine herbal spice. On the palate, the wine is powerful, profound and precise, with fine minerality, well-integrated acidity and a long, salty-spicy finish. Despite its intensity, it is never heavy, but always balanced and elegant.
A wine for great moments and fine cuisine. Perfect with grilled or roasted veal, porcini mushroom dishes, braised poultry, seafood with butter sauce, truffle dishes or Asian-inspired dishes with depth and spiciness. Also a pleasure to enjoy on its own as a meditation wine.
