Joseph Bishop, founder of the Finsbury Distillery in London’s Finsbury district, is considered the inventor of the famous Finsbury Gin. In the late 19th century, during the heyday of the Commonwealth, the English took the reputation of this gin out into the world and made it an international symbol of the British art of distillation. With this rise of cocktail culture in the 1920s, gin experienced a new popularity – and Finsbury became the epitome of the English “way of life”.
