Description

The Douglas Laing BIG PEAT Small Batch Islay Blended Malt is one of the best-known bottlings from the independent Scottish bottler Douglas Laing & Co. and is regarded as a tribute to the famous whisky island of Islay. At 46% ABV in a 0.7-litre bottle and presented in a high-quality gift box (UK), this Blended Malt Scotch Whisky comprises exclusively single malts from Islay. The blend includes whiskies from the renowned distilleries Ardbeg, Caol Ila, Bowmore and the legendary Port Ellen Distillery, amongst others. As part of the Remarkable Regional Malts series, Big Peat brings together the island’s diverse characters in a harmonious small-batch bottling. The whisky is bottled without chill filtration and without the addition of colouring agents, thereby preserving its natural character.

Each distillery contributes its own style to the overall profile: Caol Ila provides a pleasant sweetness, Bowmore brings balance and elegance, Ardbeg contributes intense medicinal and earthy smoky notes, whilst Port Ellen lends the blend additional finesse. The result is a powerful Islay blended malt that combines maritime freshness, salty sea air and intense peaty smoke with a surprisingly sweet malt base. This balanced composition makes Big Peat an authentic representative of Islay whiskies and a classic for lovers of smoky Scotch whiskies.

The Douglas Laing Big Peat Small Batch Islay Blended Malt reveals its intense aromas best when enjoyed neat or with a few drops of water. Its robust smoky and coastal notes pair superbly with smoked salmon, oysters, BBQ specialities, mature Cheddar or blue cheese. Dark chocolate with a high cocoa content or roasted nuts also complement the distinctive character of this Islay Blended Malt Scotch Whisky perfectly. The combination of single malts from Ardbeg, Bowmore, Caol Ila and Port Ellen, the small-batch bottling at 46% ABV, with no chill filtration and no added colouring, makes Douglas Laing Big Peat one of Scotland’s most popular peaty blended malts.
