Chapter 7 Monologue – Glenlossie 2008 Single Malt Scotch Whisky
This is a single cask bottling from a bourbon hogshead that yielded just 277 bottles. From the outset, Glenlossie’s distilleries have been fitted with purification pipes that channel any heavier alcohols that have refloated in the Lyne arm back into the body of the distillery to be re-distilled. It is the use of these purification pipes that gives the spirit a certain oily texture, while a long fermentation also helps to promote a grassy note in the new brand. Glenlossie remains a staple of its parent company’s blends, and apart from Diageo’s Flora & Fauna range – where it is bottled as a 10-year-old – it is rarely seen as a single-malt bottling, even from independent suppliers.

Aroma and taste
Nose: Sugared almond, spicy oak, melon and milk chocolate.

Palate: Hazelnut praline, polished oak and berry jam, along with a hint of vanilla fudge.

Finish: Orange curd, dried apple and a pinch of nutmeg.
