Champagne Lanson Le Black Création 259 Brut 12,5% Vol. 0,75l
£45.00
Champagne Lanson Le Black Création 259 Brut 12.5% ABV, in a 0.75 l bottle, embodies a modern interpretation of the famous Lanson style whilst reflecting more than 260 years of champagne tradition. Under the guidance of cellar master Hervé Dantan, who has shaped the house’s development since 2013, the legendary Le Black Label Cuvée has been reimagined and further developed as Le Black Création. The number 259 represents the number of blends created since the founding of Champagne Lanson in 1760, making each Création a unique expression of its vintage.
The cuvée combines a careful selection of the finest terroirs in Champagne with an impressive library of reserve wines spanning more than 20 years. This is complemented by the ‘eternal reserve’ introduced by Hervé Dantan, which is expanded annually with wines from the most recent blend. Part of this reserve matures in stainless steel tanks, whilst another part matures in wooden barrels, lending additional complexity and depth. Another characteristic of Lanson is the extensive avoidance of malolactic fermentation, which allows the wines to retain their freshness, vibrancy and longevity. Each Création matures for around four years in the house’s cellars before being released. The result is a premium French champagne that combines elegance, freshness and aromatic depth in perfect balance.
Awards:
– 93/100 points from James Suckling
– 92/100 points from Wine Spectator
Tasting NoteIn the glass, the Lanson Le Black Création 259 Brut displays a brilliant gold colour with amber highlights and a fine, persistent perlage. On the nose, a fresh bouquet of Williams pear, apple and citrus fruits unfolds, complemented by subtle notes of fresh pastries. On the palate, ripe fruit and nuances of mandarin, lemon and grapefruit are carried by a lively freshness. Notes of brioche and dried fruit lend additional depth and complexity. The finish is elegant, long-lasting and remarkably balanced.
Champagne Lanson Le Black Création 259 Brut pairs superbly with scallops, particularly when combined with toasted coconut and Asian spices. This French champagne is also an excellent match for oysters, lobster, delicate fish dishes and refined starters. As an aperitif, it impresses with its freshness and precision, whilst its complexity also stylishly complements sophisticated menus. Served at 6–8 °C and ideally enjoyed from a white wine glass, this brut champagne reveals its full aromatic range.
