Description

With the Ardbeg 15 Years Old The Beithir’s Tale, the Islay distillery continues its legendary Anthology Collection – a limited series of single malts inspired by mythical creatures of Islay. Each bottling represents a unique cask selection and a particularly characterful maturation. After “The Unicorn’s Tale” and “The Harpy’s Tale”, “The Beithir’s Tale'” tells the next story from Ardbeg’s legendary world – named after the legendary Beithir, a giant, snake-like sea monster that is deeply rooted in the mists of Islay.

Matured for 15 years, this Ardbeg has been finished in a combination of American white oak and secret rare casks – a cask selection that not only adds depth but also contributes to the mystique of this limited edition bottling. Colourless, non-chill-filtered and bottled at 46% vol., this whisky reflects the essence of Beithir: powerful, complex and untamed.

Legend has it that the beast devoured three fine casks from Ardbeg’s warehouse before being tamed by the music of Jackie, the chair of the Ardbeg Committee. As a tribute to this encounter, the casks returned on the Weller – matured, transformed, full of depth. The edition is therefore not only a tribute to Islay’s legendary world, but also an aromatic testament to Ardbeg’s creative cask art.

Tasting NoteColour: Pale Stroh.

Nose: Spicy, oily and savoury. Lush notes of malt molasses meet tarry wood railway sleepers and smoked herbs. Grilled apples and sultanas reveal sweet notes. With a dash of water, the flavour of eucalyptus and menthol unfolds, followed by fennel and pine.

Flavour: Incredibly balanced, sparkling on the palate, followed by peat smoke, coffee grounds and redcurrants. Notes of lemon balm mingle with smoked mandarins, followed by a sharp, smoky spiciness.

Finish: Langs and complex, with subtle notes of vanilla and smoked butter.

The Beithir’s Tale is a whisky for the pleasurable, pure moment that requires time and attention. It is best enjoyed in a nosing glass at room temperature – preferably with a splash of water to open up its complex flavours even further. Ideal as an accompaniment to strong dark chocolate, smoked cheese or simply as a meditative dram in the evening. For collectors and Islay fans, this edition is an indispensable piece of modern whisky history – where myth meets malt.
