The Isle of Jura single malt whisky finds its origins near Scotland’s west coast. The small, picturesque island of Jura is home to fewer than 200 inhabitants and has been home to the Jura Distillery since 1963. The distillery added the Seven Wood, Journey, 12 Years, 10 Years and 18 Years Scotch whisky editions to its portfolio in 2018. The design of the bottles combines the old style of the distillery with modern, powerful product design. The 18-year-old combination of peated and unpeated distillate matures in ex-bourbon barrels made from American white oak. It is refined once again by finishing its maturation in Premier Grand Cru Bordeaux barrels. These French red wine casks previously contained first-class Bordeux wine from top vineyard sites and make the Isle Of Jura 18 year old whisky stand out from other whiskies with a sherry cask finish.
Aroma
The spicy notes of cinnamon and toffee provide a good radiance and show a very complex depth after 18 years in the cask. The well-balanced sweetish aroma of tropical fruit follows interestingly.
Taste
In the full-bodied taste, you can expect dark notes of cocoa, which are complemented by coffee and juicy fruits from the forest. The whisky also presents the slightly bitter taste of dark chocolate, which continues in the finish.
Finish
Charming tart coffee and fruity notes lead into the long, expansive finish. They leave an exceptionally well-adjusted impression that is a pleasure to discover.
