Waterproof Blended Malt Scotch Whisky is a characterful blended malt Scotch whisky, bottled at 45.8% in a 0.7-litre bottle. The name ‘Waterproof’ brings together several elements of the Scottish whisky tradition: ‘Water’ stands for the pure water that is essential for whisky production, whilst ‘Proof’ refers to the historical unit of measurement used to determine alcohol strength, which was originally measured using gunpowder and later with hydrometers. At the same time, the name is a nod to weatherproof clothing and a tribute to the Scottish inventor of the raincoat, Charles Macintosh. The whisky combines selected sherry-influenced single malts from a handful of renowned Scottish distilleries and is bottled in batches at a higher alcohol strength than usual.
