Description

The Lagavulin 8 Years Old Single Malt Whisky 48% Vol. 0.7 l + GB is a tribute to the long tradition and distinctive heritage of the Lagavulin distillery, which has been known for its powerful, peaty whiskies on the south coast of Islay since 1816. This whisky was inspired by Alfred Barnard, one of the first travelling whisky journalists, who visited Lagavulin in the 19th century and was inspired by an eight-year-old Lagavulin at the time.

Despite its comparatively short maturation period, Lagavulin 8 Years Old impresses with its exceptional intensity and complexity. The high peat content of the Islay-typical malts gives it a distinctive smoky flavour, which is wonderfully balanced with sweet and spicy elements thanks to the eight years of maturation in American oak casks. The higher alcohol content of 48% vol. ensures a full-bodied structure and an intense flavour experience that will delight lovers of smoky whiskies.

Tasting NoteColour: Light gold.

Nose: Intense smoky notes, bonfire, maritime character, hints of citrus, sweet malt and a subtle spiciness.

Flavour: Dry, strong, distinctive peat smoke, ash, black peppercorns, sweet vanilla and a fine oak spice.

Finish: Langs and warming, with lingering smoke, dry spice and a subtle sweetness in the background.

Lagavulin 8 Years Old is a whisky for true Islay fans and is best enjoyed neat or with a few drops of water. It harmonises perfectly with dark chocolate, smoked meat or spicy hard cheeses such as mature cheddar. Grilled seafood or a savoury BBQ also complement its smoky intensity perfectly.
