Description
The Amahagan World Malt Whisky Yamazakura WOOD Finish is an exceptional World Blended Malt Whisky, bottled at 47 per cent in a 0.7-litre bottle, complete with a gift box. This bottling originates from the vicinity of the Nagahama Distillery in Japan, a young whisky distillery whose Amahagan range focuses on different cask and wood types. For this World Malt, selected malt whiskies are blended together and then refined through a special finish using Yamazakura wood. The Japanese term ‘Yamazakura’ refers to the Japanese mountain cherry, with ‘Yama’ meaning mountain and ‘Sakura’ meaning cherry blossom or cherry tree. It is precisely this unusual type of wood that forms the key distinguishing feature of this edition.
The Amahagan Yamazakura Wood Finish thus combines international malt whisky blending with Japanese cask finishing and the distinctive style of the Nagahama Distillery. The Yamazakura wood imparts distinctive floral and spicy notes to the composition, setting this bottling apart from whiskies traditionally matured in oak. The Amahagan series serves as a platform for Nagahama to experiment with different whiskies, cask types and finishes, and has established itself both in Japan and internationally. With its robust 47% ABV, the Yamazakura Wood Finish and the high-quality gift packaging, this Japanese-inspired World Malt is aimed particularly at whisky enthusiasts who wish to discover unusual wood maturations.
Tasting NoteColour: Warm gold to amber.
Nose: Fresh and floral with wild cherry blossom, orange peel and subtle notes of incense, accompanied by dark honey.
Palate: Complex and well-balanced with sweet fruit notes, orange, dark honey, floral accents and a delicately spicy woody character.
Finish: Long-lasting and spicy with subtle sweetness, citrus fruits and characteristic Yamazakura wood notes.
The Amahagan Yamazakura Wood Finish is particularly recommended for enjoying neat at room temperature or with a few drops of still water, allowing the floral and spicy woody notes to fully unfold. Culinary pairings include grilled poultry, duck, mildly spiced Japanese meat dishes or mature cheeses. For a sweet accompaniment, try desserts featuring orange, honey or dark chocolate, as well as almond and nut-based biscuits. Thanks to its unusual Yamazakura finish, this whisky is also an interesting choice for whisky tastings and special evenings of indulgence.
