Behind the Nc’nean distillery is founder Annabel Thomas, a pioneer in the world of Scotch whisky. With a great deal of passion and perseverance, she realised her dream of a sustainable distillery. The whisky is made exclusively from Scottish, organically grown barley malt, produced using renewable energy and bottled in 100% recycled glass bottles. The name “Nc’nean” is inspired by “Neachneohain”, a mystical fairy queen from Gaelic folklore who is considered the protector of nature and the wilderness.
The Nc’nean Organic Single Malt Whisky is an exceptional Scottish organic whisky that impresses with its young but already remarkably complex flavour. The combination of STR red wine casks (55%), ex-bourbon casks (43%) and a small proportion of Oloroso sherry casks (2%) creates a fascinating depth and harmony. STR stands for “shaved, toasted and re-charred”, a special treatment of wine casks that releases intense flavours of red fruits, spices and a subtle woody sweetness.
The nature-loving philosophy of the Nc’nean distillery is not only reflected in the sustainable production, but also in the artistically designed bottle inspired by plant tendrils. No post-treatment of any kind is used: The colour comes exclusively from the oak barrels, and cold filtration is also deliberately avoided. The result is an authentic, unadulterated single malt.
Tasting NoteColour: Light gold.
Nose: Delicate aromas of citrus fruits and floral notes, accompanied by a hint of vanilla and honey.
Flavour: Soft and full-bodied with nuances of dried fruit, spices and a slight malty sweetness.
Finish: Warm and lingering with an elegant, spicy finish.
The Nc’nean Organic Single Malt Scotch Whisky is an excellent accompaniment to savoury dishes such as smoked salmon or mature cheese.
