The Old Raven Whisky Triple Distilled Single Malt Black Edition Cask Strength with 54% vol. is a powerful and characterful bottling from one of Austria’s pioneering distilleries. The Old Raven distillery is located in a former Hungarian customs house in the Lafnitz Valley, a region known for its pure nature and artisanal distilling skills. The water from the 98 metre deep “Raven Well” gives this whisky its unmistakable character and ensures exceptional purity.
This triple-distilled single malt is neither chill-filtered nor coloured, so that it retains its natural taste and full range of flavours. It is matured in selected original casks from Spain and Kentucky, which gives the whisky a perfect balance between spicy, sweet and toasty notes.
A special anecdote from the distillery is “Charly”, a tamed raven who is considered the guardian of the whisky casks and is already a legend in his own lifetime – a symbol of the soul and quality of this exceptional whisky.
Tasting NoteColour: Natural amber with golden reflections.
Nose: Intense aromas of dark chocolate, roasted coffee beans, vanilla and a subtle spiciness from the cask maturation.
Flavour: Full-bodied and complex with notes of toffee, dried fruit, honey and roasted nuts. The cask ageing gives it a pleasant oak flavour with a hint of caramel.
Finish: Langs and intense with warm wood and cocoa nuances, accompanied by a subtle smoky note.
This intense single malt whisky is best enjoyed neat or with a few drops of water to gently open up the cask strength. It is an excellent culinary accompaniment to mature cheese, dark chocolate or grilled meat. It is also the perfect accompaniment to a good cigar or a strong espresso.
