Description

The Benromach 12 Years Old HIGH ENZYME is a remarkable single malt whisky from the renowned Benromach Distillery in the Speyside region of Scotland. This limited edition whisky was distilled in 2012 and matured for over twelve years in first-fill bourbon barrels before being bottled in 2024. With an alcohol content of 46% vol., it is presented at natural cask strength and without chill-filtration, which emphasises its authentic and unadulterated characteristics.

A special feature of this whisky is the use of unpeated high-enzyme barley, which is usually used in grain whisky production. This special type of barley contributes to a unique flavour profile that sets it apart from traditional single malts. Maturation in first-fill bourbon casks also gives the whisky fresh fruity notes and a pleasant sweetness.

Tasting NoteColour: Light gold.

Nose: Delicate aromas of lemon sherbet, malted barley and green apples, followed by nuances of jasmine.

Flavour: Sweet and creamy with notes of pink grapefruit, lemon and lime. Hints of pineapple merge with honeycomb and spicy pepper.

Finish: A long, fresh finish with hints of charred oak and peppermint.

The Benromach 12 Years Old High Enzyme is perfect for drinking neat to fully experience the subtle nuances. A splash of water can open up the flavours further and emphasise the fruity and spicy notes. In culinary terms, this whisky harmonises perfectly with light fish dishes, seafood or goat’s cheese.
