The Best Dram Glenglassaugh 10 Years Old is a strictly limited single cask bottling that impressively demonstrates how elegantly a Highland single malt can be refined through maturation in a 1st fill Oloroso sherry butt. Distilled in 2014 and bottled in 2024, this single malt whisky matured for a full ten years in a particularly active cask with the number #278, which gave it both strength and aromatic depth.
With a strong alcohol content of 54.6% vol., unpeated – i.e. not chill-filtered and uncoloured – this bottling impressively brings out the full expressiveness of the Glenglassaugh Distillery, located on the north-east coast of Scotland. The influence of the Oloroso sherry cask characterises the whisky with dark fruit, spicy sweetness and a round, full-bodied structure.
Tasting NoteColour: Deep chestnut brown with a red-gold sheen.
Nose: Rich and seductive with notes of sultanas, dried dates, cinnamon, toasted almonds, sherry, toffee and old leather.
Taste: Full-bodied, sweet and spicy with aromas of dark chocolate, dried fruit, oak spice, coffee, liquorice and a subtle nuttiness.
Finish: Langs, warming and complex with balsamic sweetness, ripe tannins, oak and a hint of tobacco.
