Description
The Ardbeg Supernova Committee Release 2019 is one of the peatiest bottlings ever released by the renowned Islay distillery. With an impressive alcohol content of 53.8% vol. and an extremely high phenol concentration, this single malt sets new standards in terms of smoke intensity. This limited edition is aimed at lovers of powerful, peaty whiskies and offers an explosively complex flavour experience.
Ardbeg is a distillery with a long tradition: whisky has been distilled here unofficially since 1794, before it was officially founded by John McDougall in 1815. The name “Ardbeg” comes from the Gaelic and means “little hill”, a reference to the location on the south coast of Islay, which is famous for its heavily peated and maritime-influenced whiskies.
The Supernova series is known for its extreme smoky notes, and the 2019 Committee Release continues this tradition. In addition to the massive peatiness, it shows a remarkable complexity with spicy, fruity and sweet accents that combine with the maritime character of Ardbeg.
Tasting NoteColour: Light gold.
Nose: Explosive clouds of peat smoke with hints of black pepper, aniseed, citrus fruits and maritime notes.
Flavour: Extremely intense with strong smoke, earth, dark chocolate and espresso, subtle honey sweetness and spicy oak notes provide balance.
Finish: Langs, dry and smoky with lingering spice, mineral notes and a slight bitterness.
The Ardbeg Supernova Committee Release 2019 should be enjoyed neat or with a few drops of water to balance out its massive smokiness. It goes perfectly with grilled meat, spicy cheese, BBQ dishes or dark chocolate with chilli.
