Kerschbaum Opera 2021 13,5% Vol. 0,75l
£15.51
The Kerschbaum Opera 2021 is a red wine cuvée from Central Burgenland with a strong character that impresses with its depth, structure and impressive elegance. The traditional Kerschbaum family winery has been one of the top addresses for high-quality red wines in Austria for years – with Opera, it presents a cuvée that masterfully combines expression and harmony.
The blend consists of 60% Blaufränkisch and 40% Merlot – a combination in which the Blaufränkisch sets the tone with its flavour, structure and freshness, while the Merlot lends the wine dark fruit, fullness and soft contours. The carefully hand-picked grapes were gently fermented spontaneously on the skins for 21 days, giving the wine density and depth. It then matured for 18 months in new 500-litre oak barrels, giving it additional complexity and ageing potential.
Tasting NoteIn the glass, the Opera 2021 is a dense, dark ruby-garnet colour with violet reflections. The nose reveals a finely balanced interplay of aromas of dark berries, heart cherries, fine spice, some cedar wood and a hint of chocolate. On the palate, the wine is dense, powerful and yet balanced, with velvety tannins, elegant fruit and a well-integrated woody flavour. The finish is long, silky and carried by ripe fruit and spicy nuances.
Acidity: 5.5 g/litre
The Kerschbaum Opera is a versatile food companion that goes perfectly with terrines, succulent pork and veal dishes, but also risotto with mushrooms or strong cheeses. Served at 16 °C, the wine shows its best side – a powerful, finesse-rich red wine with depth and character that offers great enjoyment both on its own and with fine cuisine. A Burgenland classic with sophistication and elegance.
