Hillinger Blaufränkisch 2024 13,5% Vol. 0,75l

£10.31

The Hillinger Blaufränkisch 2024 is exemplary for modern Blaufränkisch from Burgenland and combines origin, varietal typicity and contemporary vinification to create a clearly structured Austrian red wine. The Hillinger winery is known for its consistent quality philosophy and focus on sustainable cultivation, with this vintage coming from organic cultivation and reflecting the authentic character of the grape variety in an unadulterated way. The wine is vinified dry, which clearly emphasises freshness, flavour and fruit. With an alcohol content of 13.5%, the wine is balanced and accessible without losing any of its depth and is ideal for uncomplicated enjoyment as well as for accompanying dishes.

Mash fermentation took place in steel tanks in order to bring out the fruit and varietal character precisely. Around a third of the wine then matured for 12 months in used wooden barrels, which lends structure and depth without masking the fruit-driven style. The ageing potential of 2 to 4 years emphasises the solid structure of this Blaufränkisch, which gains expression both young with freshness and with a little maturity. A drinking temperature of 12 to 14 °C is recommended, whereby the wine is particularly animating and clear when served at around 12 °C.

Tasting NoteIn the glass, intense ruby red colour with a short violet rim. Blueberries, blackberries, cinnamon cloves and pepper on the nose, accompanied by a subtle earthiness. Fruity on the palate with notes of blueberries, cloves and fine spice carried by dry, animating acidity and grippy tannins. The finish is spicy, structured and long-lasting.

Acidity: 5.9 g/l

Residual sugar: 1 g/l

The Hillinger Blaufränkisch 2024 is a versatile food companion and goes particularly well with classic meat dishes such as roast pork, grilled beef or spicy sausages. It goes very well with cold cuts, bacon, hearty bread and savoury spreads as its acidity and spiciness provide balance. This organically grown Blaufränkisch also comes into its own with rustic dishes and pasta dishes with tomato or slightly spicy sauces. It is also ideal as an uncomplicated red wine for social gatherings where a clearly structured, spicy style is required.
