Salzl Pannoterra 2020 14% Vol. 0,75l

£26.96

The Salzl Pannoterra 2020 is one of the most powerful red wine interpretations from the Salzl Seewinkelhof winery and impressively reflects the deeply rooted winegrowing culture of Burgenland. The grapes grow on a diverse soil structure of loess-like chernozem, sandy loam with a high gravel content and black earth with a gravel content, which offers the grape varieties ideal conditions for structure, concentration and complexity. Vinification involves traditional mash fermentation in steel tanks at 30 °C, a maceration period of 14 days and malolactic fermentation. The wine is then matured for 12 months in small oak barrels, entirely in new wood, which gives the wine its striking depth and elegant barrel character. The recommended drinking temperature is 16-18 °C, and the wine can be drunk from 2024 to 2034 under optimal storage conditions.

The combination of powerful ageing, precise cellar work and the mineral-rich soils results in a red wine that stylistically represents the top category of Seewinkelhof wines. The 2020 vintage is taut, structured and at the same time harmoniously balanced. The combination of varietal depth, finesse and barrel integration results in a wine that is equally suited to sophisticated menus and special moments of enjoyment. Its complexity and long-term development potential make the Salzl Pannoterra an outstanding representative of Burgenland’s red wine tradition.

Tasting NoteDeep, dark ruby red in the glass with a black centre, violet reflections and fine rim brightening. Dark berry fruit, cocoa powder, roasted raspberry flavours, black pepper, spicy notes and ripe cherries on the nose. The palate reveals a powerful body with dark fruit, ripe sour cherries, plums, hints of Mon Cheri, cranberries, roasted berries, fine herbal spice, liquorice, eucalyptus and black olives, accompanied by delicate sweetness, juicy acidity, velvety tannins and smoky, roasted nuances. The finish is full-bodied, taut, perfectly balanced and long-lasting with light earthy and salty minerality.

Acidity: 5.2 g/l

Residual sugar: 1.4 g/l

This Pannoterra 2020 is an ideal accompaniment to intense meat and game dishes, such as venison stew, wild boar, braised beef or spicy lamb variations. It also harmonises with strong cheeses, especially mature hard cheeses or spicy semi-hard cheeses, whose aromatic depth is supported by the density of the wine. Savoury dishes with mushrooms, dark sauces or Mediterranean herbs can also be perfectly combined with its powerful style. Its structure, complexity and great ageing potential make it particularly suitable for festive menus, special moments of pleasure and for lovers of red wines with a strong character.
