Netzl Zweigelt Rubin Carnuntum DAC 2023 13,5% Vol. 0,75l

£15.51

The Netzl Zweigelt Rubin Carnuntum DAC 2023 13.5% vol. 0.75 l is an Austrian red wine from Carnuntum with a strong character that impressively reflects the typical characteristics of the regional Rubin Carnuntum brand. This designation stands for high-quality Zweigelt red wines, which are vinified from the indigenous Zweigelt grape variety and must pass a strict quality test by an independent tasting panel. Weingut Netzl is one of the region’s renowned wineries and stands for authentic DAC wines from Austria that are characterised by their terroir.

The vines grow on slightly gravelly loess soils, which give the wine structure and fine minerality. The mesoclimate of the Carnuntum region also benefits from the influence of Lake Neusiedl and the nearby Danube. This climatic combination ensures optimal ripeness of the grapes and at the same time preserves a lively acidity and fresh fruit. The selective hand-picking took place on 21 September 2023, followed by careful whole-cluster and single-berry selection in the cellar. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks at a maximum temperature of 28 °C, accompanied by regular flooding of the mash cake to optimally extract colour, aromas and tannins. After around two weeks of maceration, malolactic fermentation takes place in used barriques. The wine then matures for around 12 months in used French barrique barrels before bottling in summer 2025.

Tasting NoteA deep ruby red with violet reflections in the glass, the nose reveals intense aromas of dark cherries, ripe berries and fine spices accompanied by subtle roasted aromas and a hint of herbs, on the palate the wine is juicy and structured with ripe fruit, harmonious acidity and finely integrated tannins, the finish is elegant, spicy and long-lasting.

Acidity: 5.2 g/l

Residual sugar: 1.2 g/l

This Rubin Carnuntum Zweigelt is a versatile food companion and goes perfectly with grilled beef, braised dishes, game stews or hearty pasta dishes. It also harmonises with classic Austrian cuisine, such as roast beef, goulash or hearty grilled meat dishes. The wine also unfolds its structure particularly well with spicy hard cheese or mushroom dishes. Served at around 16-18 °C, this Austrian red wine from Carnuntum shows its fruity elegance and its characteristic balance of strength, flavour and regional typicity.
